COFCO Corporation organized the China Day of Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) in Beijing on June 26, 2013.
The event is aimed to deepen international cooperation and exchange in food safety solutions. COFCO is the board member of GFSI and it organized the last China Day event.
As Mr. Patrick Yu said in his keynote speech, food was the most basic for people’s life. Food safety was concern of media and society. Confidence of consumers needed to be rebuilt. Or it would affect growth of food companies. On the other hand, food safety was a complex management system including agricultural production, food processing, product distribution, etc. Synergy was needed. Food companies played the main role in this system and were the first ought to take upon responsibilities. COFCO Corporation started to introduce the integrated business model in 2009 in order to control critical links effectively and realize traceability of the food safety system. With globalization, a certain single link could affect the whole industry chain. With the cost of food safety increasing and its system more and more complex, trust should be rebuilt among companies and between consumers and companies, and certification and standardization up to the international level should be promoted.
GFSI was founded in 2000. It is an independent nonprofit international organization, consisting of over 650 food manufacturers, food retailers and service providers associated with the food supply chain from more than 70 countries. Its mission is to provide the fundamental solution to food safety, realize convergence of different food safety standards and improve the cost efficiency of food supply chain.
